The Return of A Dynasty
Depending on your sensibilities, I have some good or bad news: Road Rules is making a triumphant return to MTV. This comes after a two year hiatus. I don’t know about anyone else, but I miss the days of people taking restuarant knives to each other, needless bickering over who is responsible for driving and all out catty mean-spiritedness; and I am eager for them to be restored. Hopefully, I do not come to discover that I have outgrown such tawdry entertainment.
As a psuedo-twist, the producers have decided to American Idol-ify the show by leaving the contestants subject to an online viewer vote to determine who gets booted off and subsequently who the replacement for the booted off contestant will be. Original? Of course not. Cheap, easy and effective? Absolutely.
Remember, this is the series that spawned Mark (do not know his last name, not even positive he actually exists) from their first season. This guy went onto compete in Real World/Road Rules Challenges until he was forty years-old before “retiring” (Yes, those are quotations) from reality competitions last year. If this can create such absurdity again, we are all the better for it, or at least we think we will be.
