Friday Links
At some point I am going to get around to finishing those network fall previews. I still have NBC and FOX on the docket I believe, I’ll try to round those out in the next couple weeks, as the fall is approaching ever so quickly. But for now, we link. My apologies yet again for the late post, between getting into work around 9:30 and more technical issues, this might not be up until 11am et.
Also, Mad Men was fucking fantastic last night. Apparently single mommy doesn’t realize, or at least isn’t making it known she realizes, that she is raising the next Hat McCulloch. Much more on this next Thursday.
So is this the new thing now? For aging, overweight, female comedians to make their personal issues everyone else’s business. I will give Roseanne Barr credit for this, her intern must be a real dick.
The creator of Weeds is denying regular cannabis usage. Me doth think the lady protests too much. But doesn’t it give the series more credibility if she is a pothead? And really, if she is being candid, isn’t this akin to Donald Trump should he have created The Wire? I want authenticity, damn it!
Tony Soprano’s SUV failed to sell. I am somewhat surprised, but one would guess since Tony drove several cars throughout the series, none of them seem exclusive (though the white SUV is the one we most commonly identify him with), thus depreciating the market value of all of them.
Details on the Friday Night Lights DVD and soundtrack. We haven’t decided if the series is DVD worthy, great series and all, but maybe a little too sentimental for ownership. We tend to like our DVD’s to be unmerciful. As for teh soundtrack, well, we’re not purchasing it, but the series did inspire us to purchase The Killers, “Sam’s Town” album (”Read My Mind” was used in the “Mud Bowl” episode), and download Daniel Johnston’s, “Devil’s Town” (If you’re looking for a decent documentary, pick up The Devil and Daniel Johnston, for those who are unaware, the guy is a underground New York and Texas legend, with a brief stint of fame in the mid-80’s, and he’s autistic).
It’s official, global warming has permeated your primetime viewing. That’s right, it is public enemy #1 on the upcoming season of 24. Yeesh, they really must be running thin on ideas. In season eight, Bauer will have to defeat defective toys imported from China.
Nice, AMC is looking to create a basketball drama with Rick Fox. Based on the strength of Mad Men I am unquestionably tuning in. Also, a basketball drama? We haven’t had one of those on television since The White Shadow. Or, if you want to include Hang Time, then I guess that’s your prerogative.
And finally, I am hesitant to mock people such as this, but a man in North Dakota accidentally killed himself trying to disprove/prove something he saw on Court TV. When they say “accidentally”, didn’t the man realize this was a distinct possibility? He was under the impression the gun was unloaded, but couldn’t he have simply pointed at himself and not pulled the trigger? I guess this is why I’m unable to advance professionally: lack of dedication.
And on that note, have a great weekend.
