News From Everywhere
A few links before we tip on out of here.
You might be able to grasp from the tone and tenor of this site, we don’t put much stock into politics or politicians, and certainly do not lean too heavily one way of the other. But one recent study that came out recently that applies to the theme here and certainly makes a helluva a lot of sense, is that those who neglect to own a TV at all, are the same people that make everything so combative and partisan.
As it turns out, the further you go to each extreme of both parties, the more likely you are to view television as inconvenience and abandon the ownership of one. And this sounds accurate because most people you see protesting or at political rallies/conventions are so tightly wound that if they were to relax in front of the television for a couple hours they might unwind too quickly and drift off into space. Basically they are all like David Simon except for the original thoughts and perspective.
Speaking of dependency to television, in case you had forgotten how remarkably spoiled we have become in this country, here is a study that indicates DVR’s save relationships. This is probably a bad thing, because any relationship that is so tumultuous that a disagreement over what to watch on a Friday night could lead to the end of it…then it is probably better just to end it quickly before someone breaks the television out of frustration and no one is able to watch anything. See? We here at Grid Effect always have your best interests at heart.
It is official, The Wire will be releasing a series box set. This is on the heels of a similar set being announced for The Sopranos. Speaking of which, guess who has ten seasons of television he would like to offer you? Anyhow, while we are somewhat bitter that we flushed all that money down the toilet, and slowly prepare to flush more, this should be a great purchase for any avid fans of the series. The same can be said for The Sopranos, the two series’ together represent the greatest run of television ever for any network, be it broadcast or cable.

We shouldn't kowtow to the purveyors responsible for such blatant manipulative consumerism...but look at how pretty it is. I just want to kiss it.
Here are pictures of Jennifer Aniston on the set of 30 Rock because everything this woman does is chronicled. We can’t help but play along, though. Of all the suggestive pictures we have posted on this site over the years. This one, as tame as it is, ranks amongst the top. And why is that? You’d have to ask John Mayer, because we have nary a clue.
Here is Kevin Dillon posing as Johnny Drama on youtube. It is part of a viral marketing campaign that is bound to work. Basically being the only skilled actor of the four guys the series aimlessly follows around, Dillon is really the only “actor” in the sense that he is actually a skilled actor. You have to hand it to him, he has that dumbfounded facial expression nailed. Of course, we assume he is acting…
And finally, Sons of Anarchy, much like Rescue Me, Mad Men, and every other crime drama before it, is just asking for a Sopranos comparison. This probably isn’t a good thing for them. On the plus side, it has Peg Bundy and Rachel Menken in it, and if they ever have a scene with them watching the episode “The Ride”, in which Chris and Tony rob the bikers robbing a store, then we will definitely tune in.
Back tomorrow with Mad Men recap.
